A digital marketing agency in London approached us to do a complete SEO audit for one of their clients in the wine space.
This client had several physical locations and wanted to know how they could improve their online presence, specifically focusing on organic traffic.
We did an audit of over 700 pages, delivered in the space of one week, and found 5+ major issues, 50+ collection pages to add, and much, much more.
The Findings
Let's take a look at the problems we found for the client's website.
The Major Issues
Major issues are problems with a website that are having a significant effect on traffic and potential earnings.
The first issue we encountered was that the collection pages (to sell products online) were not optimized for the main keywords. This is a HUGE issue because collection pages are one of the key revenue drivers for any ecommerce site.
The second major issue was that the product pages had missing H1s, as well as meta descriptions. H1s are the main title of a page and one of the main descriptors to search engines that explains what a page is about.
The third issue was 404 pages appearing in the product feed on the homepage. 404 pages are pages that are not found/have no content.
The next two issues were related to the homepage and navigation. Specifically, the homepage was not easy to navigate and did not show the main collections of the site.
There were also over 50 new potential collections that the site could add and rank for using their existing products.
The Medium Issues
The medium issues we identified were quite straightforward:
- Utilize blog posts to craft SEO-optimized content to support the key lead-gen and sales pages
- Add on-page content to the existing collection pages to help them rank for more long tail keyword variations
How We Do An SEO Audit
Our SEO audits are a combination of using SEO tools like Ahrefs and Screaming Frog to check for the basics and digging deeper into the data of the client (this may include GA4 or Search Console Access).
We do lots of competitor analysis and keyword research on top of this to present a blueprint that your client can use to elevate their SEO.
How Does This Work For The Client?
The audit process for a client is actually very simple.
In this case, the agency got in touch with us and asked us to do an audit. We then deliver the audit within 1 week, complete with any guidance you may need to deliver the audit to the client.
From there, you can add your own logo to the report and present it to your client as your own work.
All you need is a client who is interested in SEO services or who could be interested.
We've found that audits are a great starting point for a potential SEO campaign because they highlight just how many areas a website has to improve on, including low-hanging fruit that can have a real difference on the business.
